Kick Start.
Caudate Sonnet
I leave my bed reluctantly.
I need caffeine to start my brain
Or I will fall asleep again.
Where would we be without coffee?
My lady love drinks Earl Grey tea.
But she won’t rise ‘til nearly noon.
She much prefers the afternoon.
I leave her sleeping peacefully.
I take my coffee strong and black.
I pour myself a second cup
And it supplies the boost I lack.
By then my brain has woken up.
Now I am ready to attack
The lethargy which holds me back.
Though you may find it curious.
I really need the stimulus.
Which strong black coffee gives to me.
To face the day confidently.
