In the ebb and flow
needle finds the thread
miles and miles to go
you're light years ahead
the little critic inside
knows all my tricks
can I measure up
just once for kicks?
see the suffering
it's the bottom line
our common lot
this grief is yours and mine
for the joy set before him
he endured humiliation
and loss
there is no Sunday morning
without the victory
of the cross
in the light of day
practice imperfect
no matter what I say
I'm harried and hen-pecked
favor without fear
the impossible achieved
losing everything
the God who believed
not for glory
fame or wealth
but for love alone
he took all
our burdens
and rolled away the stone
see his suffering
his real identity
the least among us
grace for eternity.

Re: Measuring Up
For me, this poem exudes the poet's gratitude. It's almost palpable.
And even though I don't share the same beliefs, the poem inspires that sense of gratitude in me. And a sense of healthy humbleness.
The poem brings forth a feeling of comfort within my soul, almost a sense of safety. The feeling that I'm not alone. That we are all in this together.
