A secular hymn
to an atheist god
he calls my name
whisks me into the pod
a circular motion
with upraised hand
his mute devotees
canvass the land
with free passes
for the big to-do
the eschaton
and the whoop-de-doo
the righteous gang
are set upon
the standard bearer
is a flaming con
if it's too good
to be true
must be the work
of you-know-who
an endless void remains
a wiser man
avoids the cross
heedless ones
absorb the loss
when it pours it rains
pearls before pigs
or so I'm told
I warmed to you
your grip was cold
you were wounded
and there you bled
lost, abandoned
left for dead
now I hear
you're making strides
collecting shadows
in days the night divides
if it's too good
to be true
it must be
because of you
and the multiplied remains
a wiser man
avoids your gaze
while fools like me
caught in the maze
cause when it pours it rains
a few holdouts
at some remote location
calling in favors
for a luxury vacation.
