Spiritual Warfare: Anxietatem

It came like many times before.
To steal a moment of my life.
To take what little normality it could.
Mockingly telling me,
“Go ahead and pray to your God.
It won’t do you any good.”
Never really cared for what time of day it was.
It came when it wanted to
and left the same way.
There would be those that would say,
“Get over it. It’s all in your mind.”
But how could I?
When I couldn’t even calm the waters.
Battling my own hell
and trying to control an unseen demon.
Is easier said than done.
Makes one feel like they’re going insane.
It can be a killer.
Strangling your soul
and leaving you breathless.
That’s just one of its many sick games.
Disposing victims when it no longer benefits its appetite.
Whispers words of doubt.
Uses fear as a weapon.
I needed to live.
I had to break the cycle.
Before, it got the best of me.
The same God it laughed at;
is the same God that got me through it.
And the same God it mocked;
is the same God that keeps defeating it.
Many aren’t as lucky.
Some end up in the grave.
One day at a time is how I take it.
