I was just staring off
Into the blank face of oblivion
When something peculiar
Caught my wandering eye
Someone from my past
With a message from tomorrow
Warning signs appeared
In the slumbering sky
A ring
A glistening thing
See the silver shine
Now it is too late
The moment’s gone
And all the blame is mine
You’ve got the last word
Make sure it’s underlined
In bold, italicized
Just to be certain
Add an exclamation point
To amplify the thought
One last graceful bow
Before the final curtain
A ring
A wonderful thing
Sending light in all directions
To commemorate the date
We succumbed to all
Our glaring imperfections
December’s judgment
Falls with swift finality
In one arctic blast
Sweeping autumn leaves away
In the New Year
I’ll be right here
Stitching my wounds
Trying to find the right words to say.

Re: The Last Word
This is another one that has taken on a different meaning for me than what I had in mind originally.
No matter how bleak my circumstances, no matter how bad I've managed to foul things up, life is still worth living. Love is real, and available to all. It gets better. HANG ON!

Mortal lovers must not try to remain at the first step; for lasting passion is the dream of a harlot and from it we wake in despair.-C. S. Lewis
