It's Just Routine.

Post by Ven » Sun Sep 21, 2003 2:54 am

.........................................................

It's Sunday morning. I'm sat here alone.

I'm always the first to rise and always at the same time. She knows this and that's when she comes.

The ritual is identical, week after week. Nothing changes. I shower and dress ... make coffee and toast then sit for some peaceful time at the computer ... and she watches.
She never speaks, she just stands there in the doorway and she always looks the same. Long hair ... straight, dark and slightly damp. Cotton frock, grey, pressed, starched and pristine.
Her stature I would describe as petite and I'd estimate her age to be maybe eighteen or nineteen. Her face ... pleasant enough, but devoid of expression. I think if she smiled, you would call her pretty.

Two years !
... Two years of Sunday mornings
... Two years of thirty three minute ritual. (Yes I've timed it) and not one word nor one single deviation on her part from the weeks precedeing, nor I suspect, from the weeks to come.
Maybe I should ask her name, try to find out why she's here. Maybe do some history research on the propery.

...or maybe not.

I drink the last mouthful of tepid cofeee and glance and the clock. It's 10.33 a.m.
The same as last week and time to wake the others.
She walks behind me as I take the first flight of stairs and then stops.

She never takes the second.

Thanks T.O.D. ... and yes it's partly true except for the fact that it's not me that sees her it's my daughter and the details are fictional.
She just sees a young woman who stands at the bottom of the stairs and has long damp hair.

Children, especially pre-pubescent girls, are known to have invisible
friends. I had some friends whose daughter would sit and talk to an
empty chair or play tag and other games children play. I would tell
her that no one was there but she would be quite adamant that her
friend was there. I pressed her parents to seek psyciatric help but they
were up on the deal. Already had.

I was in the Navy stationed over seas and transferred leaving them
far behind. I don't know what ever happened with her but I have read
about this ocurring with children since and it is quite common.

Now..this doesn't sound like a friend but rather a visual dream..or a
Polterguiste of which children are targets..or a..well, if you
watch "Confessions of a dangerous mind" you will catch my drift..not
something to play around with. If it's supernatural..cleanse your house,
if it's the other..don't waste time.

Makes for great stories but reality...huh uh.

Do I sound paranoid? Oh yea!!

As long as the spirit has shown no prpensity for malevolence, leave it be. We have more than one such attached to our lives and they have become a part of our routines as well. We also know one or two "evil" ones that we watch out for... I've had a few "close" encounters of the weird kind with them.

Thanks Kup and Heinzs.
I tend to agree with the "leave it be theory".
My daughter is seventeen and a half now and yes, she did the invisible friends thing also. Thank God she has never had a bad experience and has never been frightened by anyone that she has seen.
I think maybe some awful accident has happened on these very steep stone stairs at some point and hopefully the young girl is just watching out for her.
My daughter is quite happy to walk down the stairs at 3 or 4 in the morning in the pitch dark to use the bathroom. If she is that comfortable with it's presence I see no need for any action.
I have only ever had three such experiences in my life and all of them were helpful ... one possibly life saving.

What an amazing story, Ven. Eerie yet somewhat simple, like taking a walk or getting your car washed and something extraordinary happens, all the while you continue as if it were nothing. It's just routine. Wonderfully written.

Ten years later I return and read this once again.

I have come to understand the spirit world a bit more
than before knowing that all spiritual beings are not
evil or bad though some are and can be a real threat
through having my own encounters. My home has
been active and I have seen a full bodied spiritual
apparition passing through my dining room into my
kitchen area and back through again. It wanted me
to see it. It caused a real sensation of awareness in
me that I still feel to this day.

I love this poem and am glad that I found once again.
