Carndo (Bill Whitehorn)

[carndo]

rapids flow
through the rivers edge
cutting mud, stone
over eons of ebb and flow
some years flooding the banks
taking what she can
but that's the life of a river
during the spring rains
currents touch the lives
of those around her
yet somehow she continues

[carndo]

cataracts flow
within those rapids
that I'd watch from the Colorado
red water flows
filled with clay
as trickles down from the creeks
that are full from the previous nights rain
and somehow it enriches
the life that it gives
sometimes quenching the thirst
from those that come in
from the surrounding desert
allowing life to continue

[carndo]

oceans flowing within the waves
where one watches the dolphins play
finding that joy that life gives them
jumping high
twisting above the water
doing flips
and finding the glee in doing so
but then nature has her own secrets
that some whisper in the wind
and maybe some wisdom
that they speak among themselves

[carndo]

watching the water flow
within the Colorado
toes in the sand
waiting for a fish to bite
but I'm simply enjoying the day
cool wind hits the back of my neck
and the summer smiles on
but life has its moments
that somehow work out

[carndo]

toes in the river
finding the cool of the water
where I'm simply relaxing
taking the day off
from worries of life
got my pole in the water
waiting on a fish to bite
and enjoying my time in the summer
maybe a catfish will finally hit
and I'll have dinner
we'll see

that rock peak
in which I used to sit on
and watch the whole valley
from an eagles point of view
clearing my head
when I needed it
enjoying nature as it is
reaching the spirit of life
and sometimes finding that simple wisdom
that Gaea reveals

blue sky
with clouds rolling
maybe we'll get a rain this afternoon
who knows?
we need it
this last month has been hot and dry
but that's August for ya
the pearls of nature
sometimes is stingy
keep her secrets to herself
but that's life for ya

reeds within the pond
hide secrets
they touch nature
small frogs chirp
singing life as it is
minnows gather within the ripples
crayfish settle on the bottom
and the wind blows among the clouds
where mother nature sings
as life finds its way

[carndo]

those twisted words
that's written in pain
where chaos smiles
within that darkness
glimpsing in the abyss
not realizing
what one has lost
within one's humanity
for the most part
not caring
but then that's the cost
when one remains
in the shadows

[carndo]

hallowed memories
from a shattered past
wrenched pain
within that tortured heart
where tears fall
across the face
and one hears a simple sigh
leaving one
wondering
what the hell do I do now?
and yet the emptiness
consumes what's left of the soul
but somehow
life moves on

[carndo]

that genius which occasionally
touches all of us
in the most peculiar of times
unexpectedly
but who can say what life has in store
still we find ourselves
in those places
that either bring out the best
or the worst
yet those perspectives
find themselves
in simple exploration
reaching for
something
some can not grasp
and yet it matters not
only the attempt
to try

I don't understand
and it doesn't matter
or does it?
confusion is a funny thing
it leaves one befuddled
and one saying
what the hell now?
reaching for places
they shouldn't go
and yet
some do
but sometimes that's just life

[carndo]

Poetry has gone places
that some never want to return from
and yet
it reveals shadows
that we prefer to keep hidden
at the same time
it allows us
to scream
and vent all the anger and venom out
while remembering
many of the good times we've had
celebrate those friendships
worth keeping
and allowing us to walk away
from those who weren't so good to us
so yes...
poetry is like having
various tattoos
within the soul
each having their own meaning
and history
touching that past
that simply
are
apart of us

reaching though those milestones
kilometer by kilometer
searing in the heat
as time seeps
on through the day
moment by moment
pensive for no reason
yet one hears it clearly
but that reason
lingers
for some ungodly
memory

[carndo]

reactions
affiliations
inclinations
yet in the imagination
something is lacking
for what reason
I don't know
but given time
I might find out
until then
like everyone else
I'll have to
wait and see
