Engine Light Warning

Engine Light Warning

There once was a morning when nothing went wrong
I left my house early still whistling a song
The Traffic was light, and enormously thin
Arriving at work I proceeded within.

The desks were all covered in yesterday's shit
A fax over flowing that failed to transmit
The coffee was bitter. No cream to be found
I sadly soon realized my drink would stay brown

Unwhitened, and wanting my mood slowly changed
Those good morning feelings soon left me estranged
As slowly employees came late from outside
Each one with excuses that I can't abide

By ten o'clock telephones rang all around
So many phones make such an impulsive sound
And I with my coffee that's grown cold, and stale
Sat down in my office to look at the mail

I opened each envelope seeking inside
Good news, or a check for our products supplied
But as I sat hoping, and coping, in there
All I got was more crap, and a few questionnaires

For lunch I'd arranged to stop by an account
Objections to buying I hoped to surmount
With something real tempting, like a sizzling steak
He's ripe for the taking on offers I'll make.

So true to my calling I ran out the door
Got into my car. Put my foot to the floor
Sped off to a traffic jam, sitting for hours
Abruptly bright sun turned to grey, pissing, showers

My cell phone was dead. Without the damn charger
My bladder had grown excessively larger
So much for plans from this once worthy morning
While I sit here too full, with my engine light warning.
