Compromise
by bags123
11/22/10

The fruits of our labor will always be borne
by the shoulders of savages desperately fighting

On battlefields littered with human extinction
Technology marching, lock stepped, to our doom.

At least fucking lemmings can agree on something,
while they run in great swarms to their final demise

One would think that we humans might have the distinction
of changing our fate if we'd just compromise

Cuchullin's Hounds

LONG PAST
THAT GALLANT EASTER DAY
TWAS SUNDAY MORN
THE 5TH OF MAY
BLACK AND TANS
HAD BURNED OUR HOME
THEN LEFT
MY FATHER DIEING

MY MOTHER STOOD
TOO PROUD TO CRY
WITH ONE LAST KISS
SHE SAID GOODBYE
THEN GATHERED ME
BEYOND THE FLAMES
TO TELL OF ERIN'S
HEROS

"FROM FINN McCOOL'S
OWN FENIAN BAND
TILL NOW AS ENGLAND
RULES OUR LAND
THERE'S ALWAYS BEEN
A BROTHERHOOD
TO DEFEND
OUR IRISH NATION

DEFIANT LADS
WHO ARN'T AFRAID
FOR FREEDOMS CAUSE
THEIR OATHS ARE MADE
BY BLOOD AND BONES
EARTH AND SKY
THEY'LL CLEAR
THE MURKY WATERS

YOUR FATHER
WAS A CHOSEN ONE
A LEADER OF
CUCUHULLIN'S SONS
BRAVE AND FIERCE
HIS HOUNDS DID FIGHT
ALL AGAINST
THE TYRANTS SOLDIERS

JUST NOW MY LOVE
A LAST COLD FACT
THE DEVIL WEARS
A UNION JACK
WE SUFFER
ON OUR BENDED KNEES
ASKING WHERE IS
GOD'S DEFENDING

MAY SAINT MICHAEL
TEACH YOU HOW TO STAND
PLACE HIS BRIGHT SWORD
IN GROWING HANDS
TO RID THESE DEMONS
FROM OUR LAND
AVENGE YOUR
FATHER'S MEMORY"

I GREW UP QUICK
THEN WENT AWAY
IN BELFAST JOINED
THE I.R.A.
I MARRIED AND WE
HAD A SON
JUST BEFORE
THE BULLET HIT ME

SO NOW MY TIME
TO DIE HAS COME
MY BATTLES FOUGHT,
BUT STILL NOT WON,
AND I LAY DIEING
ON THE FLOOR
JUST LIKE MY DA,
AND HIS BEFORE

Outside My Window Sill
by bags123
01/07/11

Enter Fall shadows with autumn's dead leaves
Caught in the gutters built under my eaves
Thoughts that are subtle lie suitably still
Others float higher then land where they will

Stuck under brambles, or burned in the street
Mulch for my garden, or walked on by feet
Blown by a wind that's increasingly chill
Autumn's dead leaves, and my ponderings spill

Over the backyards, and trails near my home
Walking outside with my dog all alone
Covering pathways that run down the hill
Colorful leaves that must lie there until

Winter arrives with it's blankets of snow
Sticking to branchs where once leaves would grow
Quilting the trees, and the ground with great skill
Resting in peace outside my window sill

A Poet Learns To Be Unread
by bags123

Some poems disappear when critics advise;
"They should vanish before they are noted",
and impassioned poets quickly surmise,
that their verses will seldom be quoted

Though most labor on, and never give in,
to the fashionable trends of the day
They'll wear thicker skins, since critic's akin,
label everything "trite, and cliche"

A poet must learn, that all his concerns
are not shared by the prosaic masses
Like Byron, or Burns, they'll often take turns
finding solace in whiskey filled glasses

Just so it is said, by masters now dead;
"Poetry written will soon be unread"

Congratulations, sir bags! You're certainly most deserving.

If anyone wants to dispute this, I challenge them to an e-spar. My representative in the spar shall be... Bags. :)

But seriously. Congrats and junk. :D

I'd like to thank you all for your equally bad taste in poets. :)
