Forever and a Day

Forever and a Day

A poet and philosopher of note
who analyzed the total of his work
concluded that the sum of what he wrote
was lacking any literary worth.

Unhappy at its insignificance
he's since devised a keen and cunning plan
he's trained himself to write whilst in a trance
by taking lessons from that Derren Brown.

To date he's written twelve vivid epics
and some intriging pages of free verse
his hand scribbles, automatic, frantic !
Like magic dancing shoes it's now a curse.

He loathes the writings of his inner self
and mourns the secret thoughts he gives away
but his art graces many a book-shelf
and his name lives forever and a day.

Great poem, Ven. I really enjoyed it. It's sad though. Sure, his stuff is good but he doesn't even enjoy writing anymore...

Enjoyed this piece Ven. But who is writer you speak of? I thought at first you were talking about Derren Brown, but seems he's some kind of psychic, or so he says. He can't be all that bad though, he was born in Croydon, Surrey, my birthplace too.

Derren Brown is definitely not a psychic  He's an entertainer, a hypnotist and an exceptionally clever psychologist. He has gained obscene amounts of money and UK wide fame from the making of three entertaining television series about how easy it is to manipulate the human mind. The episode where he set up a fake seance in order to prove how easy it is to scam the bereaved was the most complained about programme on British TV ... EVER !!! apparently he still receives several letters of complaint every week form psychics and Christians, he is sensitive to all onjections but believes that at least the latter will forgive him.
He's a superb entertainer and a slightly scarey but very clever man.

As for that lack of an identity for the poet in the piece, that was deliberate

Thanks for reading and commenting Gillian, as always it is greatly appreciated

A very intrigUing piece Ven, well written, that ten syllable thing is difficult, and it's very easy to lose that Iambic rythym.

Derren Brown rocks, the armed robbery in particular was very disturbing and just went to show how easily people can be manipulated, especially those that convince themselves that they are immune to such things.

Thanks Pope, I realize that the rythym gets a bit choppy at the beginning of the third and end of the fourth stanzas. Not too worried about it though it still flows well enough I think and I haven't had to compromise on the theme ... which is nice

This is way too UK in it's references for a dumb Yankee like myself to pick up on,..... but if I was a Brit I bet I'd think it was amusing. Well done my friend.
