Speaking Word
The Quiet Poet

I am the carpenter's son;
a small-town boy.
I am the dissident;
a thorn in the Senate's side.
I am worth my weight in silver.
I am the country preacher;
a voice in the wilderness.

I am the blasphemer;
soon to be struck down.
I am life and death,
night and day.
I am the start of change;
the herald of tomorrow.
I am love and hate;
forgiveness and revenge.
Large are my arms
and loud is my voice.

I am neither king nor judge;
I am the shepherd.
I am the peace-maker;
a witness of love.
I embrace totality;
none are left behind.
The liar, the thief, the whore;
all are my companions.

Woe to the false prophets
who kill in my name.
None may speak for me,
for I have already spoken.
I have no successors,
for my work is complete.

Look not to the dead,
nor ignore the living.
I am one and all;
the whole of creation.
I am everything
and I am nothing.
I am yesterday and today,
and what is yet to come.
I am you.
