Code: Select all
[url=http://www.poetrypages.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=16]Text here[/url]
So it looks like this:
Text here
If you want to add color to your link:
Code: Select all
[url=http://www.poetrypages.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=16] [color=blue]text here[/color][/url]
text here
same code goes for sites outside of the pages. For example yahoo.com is not on these pages... but I used the following code:
Code: Select all
[url=http://my.yahoo.com/]Yahoo[/url]
yahoo

You can also just type in the URl of the link and then it would look like this:
http://www.yahoo.com
If you want an image to appear, then use the
http://www.yahoo.com
If you want an image to appear, then use the
Code: Select all
[img]hyperlink to the image[/img]

thanks for responding so quick everybody!.. ..
Berlie..i dont know what a html page is..sorry.. but yes i would like to know how to make links inside a post..(i think!)..like when i list the titles of the 'moderator faves' pieces, id like to have the option of having it where people could click on the titles to go there and read them..and also..
like on my Haiku info page id like to know how to put in links for people to click on to go somewhere really cool..(on other sites).. like seeing their name written in Japanese, or to read an interesting piece about Haiku etc..
Jade and Heinzs..thanks so much for posting the info..but where exactly do i go to do that?..is there a certain place to go here on the Poetry Pages site (or elsewhere?) to type in those codes?..what is the very very first thing to do?.. is a URL address the letters that are in the address bar at the top of the page?..do i type that whole entire thing?..some are very long..also, if someone clicks to go somewhere, how do they get back?..sorry to be such a dummy about this stuff!.. and thanks again for your help! ..

You type the codes for the links directly into the topic you are creating, using any of the modes listed above. The URL address is what is shown in the "address" bar in your browser, and it MUST be exactly as shown or you will be directed somewhere that does not exist. For example, the URL for this post (the one you started) is http://www.poetrypages.com/phpBB2/viewt ... 485#153485.
Examples:
Click here to view Rosehips poem: Peter Pan Where Are You?
Go here to visit Heinz's Computer Society Page: http://www.ggcs.org
or go here GGCS
View a picture here: http://search.gallery.yahoo.com/search/ ... 3A10540414
or load one like this:
either way works except the second method loads it without having to click on the link.
Returning to the PoetryPages is as simple as using the "back" button in the browser for those links that redirect your active window. Direct links open a new window without moving you from the PoetryPages, so you can simply close the second window and be back where you started.
Hope that helps.
Make a test post of what you want linked to and I'll come in to make sure the links work. Then you can always see how to do it from your own "edit" tab.

You don't have to type out the whole URL at the top of the topic you want to link to.
Highlight the URL just by clicking on it, then using your keyboard hit Ctrl then the letter C - that makes a copy of what you just highlighted. Then go to a reply page, or edit one of your own posts to add the link. Put your cursor where you want the link to show up, and again on your keyboard hit Ctrl then the letter V - that pastes what you just copied.
So -
Highlight the text or URL you want to copy.
Hit Ctrl C
Decide where you want to put the copy.
Hit Ctrl V
You can use the same two commands in a Word document when you want to move paragraphs or certain parts of text from one place in the doc. to another place.
Try it in a Word document and see if it works. Also, the computer remembers what you copied - so if you keep going to different places and just enter Ctrl V everywhere you'll get the same thing copied all over the place.
If you triple mouse-click on a paragraph it will highlight the whole paragraph for you. If you double-click on just one word it will highlight it for you so you don't have to drag your cursor all the way through a paragraph or a word.
Let me know if I've been clear or not and I'll try and explain better.

You would type the link code into the post just like any other text.]is there a certain place to go here on the Poetry Pages site (or elsewhere?) to type in those codes?..what is the very very first thing to do?.. is a URL address the letters that are in the address bar at the top of the page?..do i type that whole entire thing?..some are very long..also, if someone clicks to go somewhere, how do they get back?
Yes, the URL address is the letters that appear in the address bar. Example: the URL for poetry pages forums is: http://www.poetrypages.com/phpBB2/index.php
The entire URL of the post or web page you are wanting to link to does need to be entered in in order to link to it. However you do not have to type out everything. Here is what you do:
First go to the page or post you want to link to.
Highlight the URL address in the address bar on that web page. Either hold down the CTRL key and the C key on your keyboard to copy the highlighted text or right click with your mouse and select Copy.
Start the reply or new topic that you want the link to appear. When you want to link to the web page URL you copied hold the CTRL key and the V key on your keyboard or right click with your mouse and select Paste. That will insert the copied URL into the post.
If you want to have text that is linked to the URL address instead of the long URL you would type the following:
Code: Select all
[URL=http://www.poetrypages.com/phpBB2/posting.php?mode=reply&t=25312]CLICK HERE[/URL]
* if someone clicks a link in a forum post it will open the link in a new window and not close the poetry pages window so they can get back easily.
