Spice of Life: Meet Psychotic Pretender

Post by nekot » Sat Jan 19, 2008 9:58 pm

I enjoy variety and truly believe it is the spice of life. People come in the most varieties of all; no two are exactly the same. I believe each person has a significant gift to share and a unique journey to live.

The Pages are not lacking in these givers and journeyers who share their insights, joys, traumas, imaginations, hopes, despairs, fantasies, fictions, beliefs, and doubts via the written word in prose, poetry, stories, and quips.

I have laughed many a time and cried many a time, as I have sat with mouse in hand reading these Pages and sharing my own heart. Folks here are an inspiration to my soul and have been a catalyst for significant growth in my own life. I have witnessed a mutual respect among this variety of souls that if duplicated in our world, would make it a better place.

Scroll down for a little spice from psychotic pretender.....

Psychotic Pretender is a newbie, this time around. She was a previous member of poetrypages, but was unable to find her old membership. (I think that is right...) She joined this time around just a little over a month ago on Dec 15, 2007.

***************************************

Meet Rebecca, Poetry Pages' psychotic pretender....

What is your age bracket: under 25, 25 - 50, over 50?
I am under 25, 24 to be exact.

What is your name? Where do you live? What do you like to do? What is your occupation?
My name is Rebecca Lynn Armstrong. I live in Roanoke Alabama, well right outside of it anyway. I like to read, write poetry, talk with my friends, visit with my family, and play with my kids. Currently I am a housewife/housemom, but that probably will end soon due to the rising prices of everything.

How long have you been writing poetry? Do you recall what led you, if anything, to start writing?
I have been writing since I was about 13. I started writing because of a broken heart. I came very close to suicide a couple of times. If it hadn't been for frozentears (my best friend since age 12 and my sister-in-law now) constantly calling me at the exact right moment I wouldn't be here today. She is the one who showed me that poetry can release you from your pain, for awhile at least.

Have you ever been published? In what books or by whom?
No sadly. But I want to put out a collection of my writings as soon as I can. Anyone with advice please contact me!!!!

What inspires you to write? Is there a certain setting where you like to write? Do you listen to music when you write?
Uuumm, different things inspire me. The wind blowing, my children's laughter, my husband being a sweetie/jerk. Sometimes there is no inspiration. My hand just picks up a pen and writes of its on volition. When it's finished, I read and edit then put it in my folders with everything else. I don't have a particular place I like to write; I just write where ever I happen to be when the muse whispers in my ear or my hand itches. Sometimes I listen to music when I write but not always. It just kinda depends on what kinda mood I am in.

What is one of your favorite poems that you have penned? Would you mind sharing why or the story behind the poem?
My favorite poem that I have ever written is my reality. I dreamed this poem one night and rushed to write it down when I woke up. That day in class our teacher, Mrs. Hendricks, said that she was going to enter those of us that wanted her to into a writing contest at Southern Union (the local college). I immediately presented her with this poem. Well, I didn't place, which was ok sorta, but the comments that the judges made hurt me. They said that it was pointless, didn't follow any rules, and all around sucked (they used the phrase "poorly written" instead of sucked). That they just didn't understand it; I cried. When my teacher asked, "why?" I said that you were supposed to FEEL this poem, not UNDERSTAND it. She said that she knew that, which made me feel better. It has been my favorite ever since. I included it for ya'll, just in case you missed it when i posted it before.

my reality

I taste the blood
that forms a spiral
within the veins of mother earth
as hatred seeps
from blades of blue grass
and touches every crevice
of my being.

I bask within
the warmth of the suns misery
as she cries tears
of black snowflakes at midnight
and the maddened moon
laughs at her joyful sorrow.

I stand within the confinement
of a spacious desert
covered with daisies
and watch as dolphins frolic
between the turbulent petals and sand.

I fall
from the heights of my grave
and slam
into ocean bedrock
causing chaotic order
within the universe
of the amethyst and emerald cut pile carpet.

I drown
within a sea of air
inside a falling star
as brilliant as the darkest catacomb
on top of the snowcapped mountain.

I slowly close my eyes
only to realize
that they are wide open
and I must now return
to everyone else’s reality
which as dispiriting and ludicrous to me
as mine is to them.

Following are a few of my favorites of Rebecca's....

****************************

Kathryn and Dylon

Dylon chases Kathryn through the house
she squeals with delight
Kathryn jumps from behind the door
he screams from fright
Dylon fights over a sippy cup
Kathryn cries over skinned knees
both laugh at the television
I beg for quiet, PLEASE!!!!!!
I feed, change, and bathe
take a little break
put both to bed
and give myself a mental shake
I watch Kathryn clasp her dolly tight
see Dylon shift around
smiling softly I think of our day
and the bliss I have found

*****************************
shadow

i am merely a shadow
incapable of escape
i am forever bound
to a person that doesnt care about me
so depressed and full of pain
i walk unnoticed through this world
stepped on
left alone in the corner
un able to express how i feel
for who takes the time for a shadow

the poetry pages; my home

i have been taunted by others
called a freak
put down for putting ink to parchment
and writing with a fury unmatched
so I hunted for a special place
an open market to display my wares
desperately hoping that some one out in the world
could comprehend my heart and soul
i have found this elusive sanctuary
a place to turn from the overbearing cruelty of others
a haven where they cant abuse my written words
my port in which to whether the storm
here is where I can release my demons
or dance alongside angels
i gaze at the testimonies of others
and try to be the balm to soothe their open wounds

Nice to know you ...even if I visited this a little late. I Liked
within a sea of air
inside a falling star
it sort of caught my imagination and keeps buzzing inside my mind.____Goodluck my friend__BeeJay
