Keeping Time
Oh, I am done keeping time. I am done.
There is no tomorrow to which I can
Appeal, and no day after to hold it
To its promises. For time does not keep
Its word without a little cajoling;
Without a little something to tempt it –
A little something I have spent already.
I am done keeping time. Oh, I am done.
I can no longer afford to keep it.
Nor am I so able as once I was
In youthful days to bend it to my will.
For time has gotten the better of me.
But only just – I have not lost my pride.
Time has not beaten me; just outlasted.
For I am done keeping time. I am done.
Time has moved on, and I have realised
That I could never keep it. Time is not
Something to be kept; only kept at bay.
And kept at bay only for so long.
Too late do I understand my mistake.
So, I am done keeping time at bay. Quite done.

Landmarks
Landmarks that no more mark the land; alone,
Out of place, strange amongst familiar things.
They stand their ground for the sake of history,
Bearing the hidden stamps of heritage
That keeps the modern world at bay.
They mark out time of a place no longer there;
Pockets of forgotten earth that encroach
Like weeds on the lustre of city life.
Like nature creeping back in to the house
Whenever the door is open.
But the door is always open, or left
Ajar, so that we come and go as we please.
And, every so often, from the corner
Of our sight we see what we missed before;
What was always there – long before we were.

Beauty Without Grace
Beauty has a friend; now long since lost.
A companion and chaperone,
Who kept her from her mischief-making.
Kindred in kind if not by blood;
Though with binding ties now breaking
Beauty is left alone.
And now her time becomes her own;
Disposed to it to make the most
At the whim of capricious mood.
With all her pleasures in attendance,
And scant regard for her own good,
Her virtue now left for the taking.

Re: Amathir
Yes Keep it safely protected as a masterpiece.
Take me back, so far back, adjust this fate. Afeared lately of pen, in abscence of light. The fear I might stumble upon a plagiarized soul. Wipe this dark slate clean, regain my thought. Add the words that rekindle my depth of soul.
