Michigan is closed. First time in a long time that all schools across Michigan shut down, businesses shut down, the state basically told everyone to stay home unless it's an emergency. Crazy.. And to think 55 days till Spring. However the weathermen keeps joking here that we won't see Spring until May and then just jump right into Summer. Have a feeling there's going to be a lot of job openings for weathermen soon.

Odd how the 'polar vortex' is again sweeping through all the red states including the deep south. Something about "when hell freezes over" comes to mind.

Way back in the day when I was a lad, nothing closed because of a thermometer reading. What's up with these modern day weather phobia's? We use to dress for it and then walk the usual 5-6 miles to school. We didn't have a school bus to keep our little ass's warm. I'm amazed at all of the church services that closed last Sunday because of the cold weather. Now we have another storm warning starting tonight Tues.10:00pm might as well call out the national guard now Take Care

Way back when Mikey was a lad (me too I guess) we'd walk to school through a blizzard, after, we milked the cows and bed warmed the chickens, chopped a cord of wood and shoveled a 10 foot wide path for the school marm to drive her jalopy to the lil red house that housed her chamber of horrors and collection of school books some of which still hadn't even been colored in, yet.

There was no wind chill factor, unless, you call blinding snow blowing horizontally, 'wind chill". We had real temps in those days, like 50 below which was just cold enough for you not to feel your nose falling off to land beside the wrapped sears catalogue papers that held your black toes together in a congealed web pattern.

No sissys around, back then. Just nose less and toe less students sitting with proper posture in our rows learning all about trickle down economics and how people like the Rockefellers were all working so hard in their winter palaces in the tropics , just to make sure we had the opportunity to walk to school even though we really weren't worthy.

I'm taking lessons from this new concept of dealing with the weather. I cancelled my Doctors appointment at the VA this morning. It's snowing and the roads are greasy. First time ever for me cancelling and rescheduling for weather conditions. I'm now a card carrying member of the Weather Sissy's. Next thing God forbid I'll be joining the Snow Birds.
