[Who Am I]

Real Heros ~ A Message To The People

Life seems a cruel game
Where only the strong win out
Where power hungry people rule those weaker without mercy
Where the ordinary people suffer from war disease and hunger
Where no one gets anywhere without stepping on others
However if we look hard enough we can find heros
Heros like Mahatma Ghandi and Mother Theresa
Heros may be a minority yet they exist
I hope to be a hero and live my life to its best
To not cause harm to others but to help them instead
To remind them we have had heros
And to show them they can be heros too in the end

There are heroes in our everyday lives.
The mother caring for 5 adopted sons (I know her personally);
the firefighter putting life and limb on the front line;
the teacher facing a sea of sullen faces in the classroom and fighting against dwindling budgets;
the soldier in a foreign land fighting an invisible foe for an unknown cause;
these are just a few that come immediately to mind. I know each of you personally knows at least one hero.

Just food for thought... perhaps the author was not trying to intentionally exclude everyday ordinary heroes. (because you are right pops they do exist everywhere, and most likely every person knows at least one if not many many more, I myself know of a few that have impacted my own life.) I think the author might have been speaking of extraordinary heroes, that are also heroes on an everyday basis sometimes in small ways sometimes in large ways, but definitely on a global scale touching millions of peoples lives for many decades. I believe this might be where the author was going because he/she mentioned Mother Theresa and Mahatma Ghandi as examples in his/her poem. Again just food for thought, and as you say the only opinion on a poem that truly matters is the author's own opinion and intention. Then again I might be way off base and taking it wrong too. LOL

I did not mean to imply that the author was ignoring the heroes in our daily lives but was attempting to expand on the definition of hero to be more inclusive and within the average reader's reach. Achieving the singularity of such as Ghandi, Joan d'Arc or Martin Luther King jr. is truly beyond our powers to imagine. They are an inspiration to all in their persistence against uncommon adversities and as such deserve a more elevated status. Referring to the last 4 lines of the poem

I hope to be a hero and live my life to its best
To not cause harm to others but to help them instead
To remind them we have had heros
And to show them they can be heros too in the end

my response was an attempt to make that an achievable goal.

and very tall
Brown, or black
Yellow, white
Short, and squat
with overbites.

There are heros
everywhere,
who live their lives
completely fair
Unbridaled by
what others see,
and doing so,
intentionally.
