The Mirror

Post by The Ravyn » Sun Apr 25, 2004 7:35 am

There is a mirror on the wall
I used to pass it by without a glance
sometimes I would look but never for long
It wasn't the scars on the outside
that made me stay away
but the ones on the inside
that I could see when I looked into my own eyes
I used to wear dark glasses
so no one could see my eyes
so no one could look into my soul
and see the devastation buried there
I used to let my hair hang in my face
sort of a shield against the world
If they can't see me I will be okay
Today I looked into the mirror on the wall
I looked for a long time
and I saw that the scars are fading away
not on the outside, they will be there always
but on the inside where it counts the most
I think I will look in the mirror again
Tomorrow
take my hand if you don't know where you're goin' ... i'll understand .... i've lost the way myself ...

As a teen I actually did let my long hair work as a shield for me, letting it hide my face. This poem is so full of hope and healing. Rae

Seeing this little "scribble" of yours has brightened my day with hope in His everlasting love and mercy presence, sought or not.

This is truly a lifter of spirits....thank you for sharing..

A wonderful heartfelt poem...expressed well....one that would touch any reader...........bravo.....

jeanne
... and his words purge up and outward,
expelled and onward through desert dust swallowed,
sands he says that gorge on simple sensibilities.
And, now he spits fragments, grit, extended vowels and elongated syllables
over cracked lips. Their sounds fall
piling round his boots…

What a sensitive way to go from hurt to healing. At first, I wanted to reach a hand out to you, but in the end, I was proud of you for regaining yourself. Keep looking in the mirror, and don't be afraid of those scars. It was what made you write this wonderful piece. :bump:
"Born into
these crooked ways.
I never even asked to come,
so now I'm living in the days.
I struggle and fight
to stay alive,
hoping that one day
I earn my chance to die..."
