Cover Art?

Post by Berlie » Wed Mar 03, 2004 10:30 am

Been thinking about cover art. What did Jenn have in mind or does she already have some artwork that she would like to use?

Came across this picture and thought it might be something she could consider if she doesn't have something else in mind. To me this looks like a raven "riding" out a cyclone.

(ignore the "Hemera" watermark on the image. That would not be there in the final copy.)

This looks just right to me, Kim. Bleak, cyclonic, straining... I'm thinking the title should be "The Ravyn: Riding the Cyclone". That way the relativity of bird and chaos is immediately linked, flavoring every word read with its image.

The original artwork had a bunch of ravens on the tree but that didn't seem right to me so i edited them out of ther picture.

It's beautiful in its starkness, and the single, lonely raven is totally appropriate!!! I'm assuming this isn't copyrighted or already belongs to you *grin*.

I'm going to give Jenn access to this forum (unless someone objects or there is a reason not to) so she can see what we are building for her. (I won't do it until you have had time to respond)

I found a new photo website (http://www.hemera.com) that lets you buy the rights to 5 of their photographs for less than 5 bucks. This image is from them and I have a subscription from them so i can use their images.

* finding just the right picture for a project is something I have always enjoyed doing.

* by all means give Jenn access.. it's her book!

I prefer Jennifer Sloan, sounds better to the ear, more totality. One thing I'm worried about, will 'the beast' know Jenn by this name? Is it her real name? Could he find out he has a daughter? That would not do. Her and her family have to be protected from this fiend.

And, yes, give her access, this is Jenn's book, she is it. Also, if this book is a succes for them, the missing poetry could be a second book, securing the future for the girls' lives.

I will of course leave the name on the book and the final title up to Jenn. Lets wait and see what she would like to see on the book before we go to far with it.

Totally cool!

Yes, we have to protect the innocent from the beast.

If you decide not to publish 'Dark Journey' at this time I think we will understand. The initial publication is going to be web based at Lulu, so the audience will be quite constricted. It doesn't sound as if this guy really does a lot of net surfing looking for poetry or prose to read...

After a time on the web at Lulu, getting an ISBN number for it will make it available through "publishing on demand" from Amazon, Borders, or Barnes and Noble. It is going to take some time to build an audience... we're not going directly to the "New York Best Sellers' List" *grin*

Here I am, again, Jenn, in the middle of the night, thinking of you. I saw you, today. In your bird-cloud form. It had expanded, Jenn. And it came before the storm...
