a wreath to hang upon the door
mistletoe and holly
taken from the druids
lights and candles
from the romans
and the festival of saturnalia
and the tree
but there are so many origins
of the tree it is pointless
to go into them here
ancient egyptian, germanic
celtic and druidic rituals
of the solstice
yet even the day was 'borrowed'
and the legend of mithras
lives on in the life
of the christ child
but in all the confusion
a meaning was born
a sharing of love and life
celebration of new birth
where is that feeling now?
bloated by greed and misuse
devoured by half price sales
people fighting
over the last one on the shelf
greedy and hateful
a disgusting display
of our own inhumanity
where is the meaning now?
you won’t find it
in department stores
or online shopping sites
it isn’t in churches or schools
it is gone from most homes
but it still exists
in the dark corners and alleys
hidden from the casual glance
those who know the meaning
are there in the shadows
take my hand if you don't know where you're goin' ... i'll understand .... i've lost the way myself ...

true so much of it is borrowed, but then in a world where there are almost now pure bloods left it seems it is a natural thing to do, along with the mixing of races, cultures, it is inevitable that beliefs take on new form, but the joy of family, the importance of keeping the idea of linear growth alive, those things arent lost, but live on in new ways, and peace and good will, who ever it is attributed to its still a good idea.........i enjoyed this very much rayvn...well done

It must live in each individual heart...and each individual is the keeper of one flame...

... and his words purge up and outward,
expelled and onward through desert dust swallowed,
sands he says that gorge on simple sensibilities.
And, now he spits fragments, grit, extended vowels and elongated syllables
over cracked lips. Their sounds fall
piling round his boots…

I hadn't seen this piece...

Jenn, I know you knew the meaning, it was just buried so deeply by the ugliness in life, until you freed yourself, and helped many of us free our own selves. For that, my Bird of Many Colors, I will always thank you.

I still look for you in the clouds, think of you when I hear or see crows winging over my life, Jenn, but, I don't think you, as the Jenn you, are still trapped. Come find me, Ravyn Who Flies, when you can, when I reach your plane.

With love, Erin

I read this poem for the first time today
And I felt a need to respond for it is almost Christmas time Again
The Ravyn has got it right!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have forgotten what means the Most.
So peace and love I say to all
And remember to give what matters most in life
Peace go with you always...................
