Ode to an Excitable Boy

Post by The Ravyn » Mon Sep 08, 2003 1:50 pm

from the south american jungles
to the streets of soho
there is mourning
roland would bow his head
were such an appendage upon his shoulders
so he lowers his thompson in reverence

the meticulously coiffured lycanthrope
sets aside his pina colada
makes a special visit to his sartor
for a suit fit for the solemn occasion
and enters the chapel arm in arm
with her royal majesty

in the house as it burned down
smoke damaged, gasping, ravaged
by choices made and actions taken
all the lawyers, guns and money
in the world could not suffice
when the price is life

1/24/47 - 9/7/03 ... life'll kill ya

author's note: warren zevon passed away last night after losing his battle with lung cancer ...

Cool tribute, Jen. Do you want this in the "tribute" section?

thanks! he gave us some very good music and some of my best memories are entertwined with songs like 'werewolves of london' and 'lawyers, guns and money' 'i was in the house when the house burned down' ... i never knew until yesterday that he wrote 'poor poor pitiful me' and was the band leader for the everly brothers ... i can't think of anything they did but i'm sure they were good ... lol

heinz if you want to move it to the tribute forum that's ok with me ... i put it here because it seems that not as many ppl visit the tribute section. (maybe they just don't visit MY poem there!) lolol

its probably because you are a quiet member... your works sometimes pop up when you post em and all us old people are like, "HELL YEA!" and we cant wait to read it but for the most part all the newer mems dont remember.. well thats not true.. they never read your old posts. specially the story ones.. i dont think anyone could forget them once they read em.. so they dont know ya and they look right past em...
werewolves of london is a bad ass song.. always liked it...
i wonder if they played one of his songs at his funeral... i know that when i kick off im being burned up but if they hold some gathering and someone reads one of my poems im gonna haunt them till they join me...

An excellent tribute to an excellent songwriter. Did you know he also penned Mohammeds Radio, and Poor poor pitiful me done by Linda Ronstadt.
