A Sonnet for Winter

Post by Jadynara » Sat May 08, 2010 12:47 am

How does the head strong Winter fall in love?
He'll kiss the ground with small white hills of snow,
And make the morning skies the grey of dove,
Causing the Summer flowers not to grow.

His brightness shames the glory of the Sun,
Gives Mother Earth a beauty of her own.
He brings her crystal diamonds for her sons,
And vows to never leave her all alone.

But he must leave her for the Summer days,
Not asking questions when, or why, or how.
He can only follow through natural ways
As his great time to leave is coming now.

He kisses his loves' body one last time
And leaves the gentle world without a chime.
So we're lost, at least we've found each other. Take my hand, if we can't find our way out of the dark, we can make our own light. - Nicole M. Goretzke 2011

My Lady Gaia has many lovers each in their turn. She is not fickle but remains true to them for a season and gladly welcomes their return

Of poetic forms, the sonnet is truly one of my favorites. :-)

Very nice sonnet Jady. I'm glad to see you experimenting with formal verse. In my never to be humble opinion that's where true poetry resides. Great job! :hello:

Wow. This beats any of anything I've read before. You just beat Terry.

Uh oh. I'm afraid those might be fighting words Jim. Thanks though. Always nice to hear people enjoy a read through. :hello:

I'll take the punishment from Terry. This pen is absolutely awesome.
