Know Your Dittier (My bio in R&M)

Post by jgdittier » Sun Nov 09, 2008 1:39 pm

It's eight this year that I've been here,
enjoying quite a spree.
All o'er the world, with limbs unfurled,
we've grown a family tree.

To share our thoughts, our wonts and oughts,
each portrait just of words.
It's not because we'd get applause,
a flock are we, rare birds.*
*R&Mers
So join me now, ascend your bough,
and tell us what yoiu'd care to.
I'll bare my soul, with truth the goal,
I'm sure we each can dare to.

Retired am I, that tells you why,
I'm belted to this chair.
I pound around, one finger found,
and at the keyboard stare.

I most esteem those times ,supreme,
when poets ruled the day.
As times have changed, I've come deranged,
the style of yore holds sway.

My muse oft' thinks in times like winks,
four beats is quite a lot.
And as for mine, I'll end the line.
Enjambment, I'll've forgot!

As my growth grows, in YOUR word rows, I'll rad your ev'ry line.
Appreciate? You bet, I'll state-
YOURS as well as mine.

It's now your turn, 'bout YOU I'll learn.
We're in a single tree.
The world we've ranged, we're not astranged!
Come on, let's all agree.

(I'm looking for a site where R&M can grow and light verse can reign.)
Several active members here know me from elsewhere. As they all have mastered R&M, I believe we can make a go of it, adding a new buoyancy.
Cheers,
Ron Jones, aka jgdittier

Love it Ron. R&M is not so much in disfavor as it is in simple disuse. I'm willing to see a "comeback"... lol.

Glad to see you here at the PP.

Oh, and if we get a good turnout I can create a subforum strictly for R&M.

Nothing sweeter than rhyme and meter
I do not care for freeform verse
Modern writers disdain rules
I hesitate to call them fools
I am quite sure they'd benefit
if they used meter when they writ.
Maybe I show my prejudice
before I speak I should think twice.
One cannot freeze poetic form
to just one accepted norm.
perhaps free form is a phase
that given time will fade away.
I am too old to change my style
So read this offering with a smile
