Sonnet 11

Post by Sailheat » Wed Nov 21, 2007 2:44 pm

How did it all begin? When we often
held hands at dawns and nights? Or when we used
To chill together at the park at ten,
And shared those stories that got us amused?

We thought our friendship would remain that strong;
Far stronger than the cement-sand's close bond.
Our thoughts would blend like memories that throng,
We thought; and lovely as a fern's green frond.

But we were wrong! Last night at that same park,
Love brimmed to birth; our friendship faded, lost
in passion's mist. But that you left a mark
That sore my gentle lips by that hard thrust
Of high excitement, your next chance is missed!
Sweet flattery! Your small lips will still be kissed!
O'er the barriers and o'er the hills, we all bounce and flow 'til we reach our final destinations.

The Iambs are a bit stretched some times, but overall I like the form and feel the poet has every right to skirt the bounds of "tradition". The sonnet has always been one of my dearest forms.
