What Gentleman Would Speak With Stones (A Villanelle)

Post by bags123 » Sun Aug 27, 2006 9:49 am

What Gentleman Would Speak With Stones

What gentleman would speak with stones
Dead voices litter earthen mounds
Beneath them lie my lover's bones

Inside her casket she intones
My name is her repeated sound
What gentleman would speak with stones

Or come here seeking the unknown
To spread red roses all around
Beneath them lie my lover's bones

Yes some forget what death bemoans
And they exist on what they've found
What gentleman would speak with stones

I hear the trees whose branches groan
Beside me as I stand earthbound
Beneath them lie my lover's bones

As night approachs I'll atone
Leaving my tears upon this ground
What gentleman would speak with stones
Beneath them lie my lover's bones

i agree with Gilly.
i really enjoyed reading this.. i'm not always a fan of the villanelle... it's sort of hit-or-miss with me... but this one was definitely a good one. :) well done, bags.

 I'm afraid I don't know what 'A Villanelle' is though.
