Standing The Pain [Sestina]

Post by Jade » Sat Aug 21, 2004 11:07 am

I tried to write one. It took me two days. Hope you like it Heinzs.

Standing the Pain

It was holding you that dried my tears
Facing all the world on my own
It was your comfort that took my load away
The deharmonized rhythm screaming within
I always wondered if you too heard the pain
Because you seemed to know when I needed to cry

You were there to lift me up as my soul cried
You were there, hands cupped, catching all my tears
In the darkest hour, when I couldn't take all the pain
You held me and wouldn't let me feel it on my own
It was with you I knew I had the power within
To make all the darkness go away

I could push the clouds apart and the night far away
I could open my eyes and not be crying
Breaking the binds keeping me screaming within
The binds that would fill my eyes with tears
I knew I could hold my head high as I stood on my own
You helped me realize one day I could overcome my pain

But it didn't end so easily, the life of pain
When you were there was the only time it went away
In your absence I tried to break everything I owned
And I tried so hard not to cry
But you were the only way I could hold back my tears
Without you, my soul was dying within

To find you, it wasn't only your words I searched within
I tore open my heart to look thru my pain
Maybe I could find reason of you leaving in my tears
Maybe I could understand why you walked away
But I refused to cry
I knew I had to be strong on my own

I had no clue how life would look alone- on my own
But I knew I could find it again- the power within
After so long, I didn't care if I cried
I learned to live with the pain
For that kind of pain can never go away
But I didn't need you to dry my tears

Although I cried when you went away
It was thru the tears I learned to stand against the pain
It was on my own my soul blossomed within
sticks and stones are hard on bones
aimed with angry art,
words can sting like all things
but it's silence that breaks the heart

Very good for a first sestina. It is indeed one of the more difficult poetic forms to "master".

Bravo! It is a fun one to do.
Entering the sanctuary of my mind may lead to perils of unknown magnitude.......... hold on and embrace the ride. Feel the tolls as we pass from existance into my sought domain of twisted reality. -negatv: 5/05-

If I changed anything I have done in my life I wouldn't be me. Personally, I kinda like me. I'm an asshole, but I'm my kind of asshole.

Friends are what help me guide myself through life. I just have to find the right direction first. -negatv- 10/06

Interesting, isn't it. Our past lives somehow trickle their way back into our consciousness. The old pains, the old joys... how many have been replaced by regrets and how many have we "gotten over"? 9 years is lifetime ago.

Cheers, Jade.

If 9 years is a lifetime ago, I wonder what 13 years is now. All I know is I love this site and I hope it is around for a very long time. A special thanks to Pops and to Berlie and all the moderators for a very wonderful Refuge for me for all these years. And I hope many more years to come.
