Should I Die
by Drew Rush

Should this be the last
My will and my testament
Should time take its toll
The debt I've owed to life
I shall pay

Let these be my final wishes
My parting words to you all

Bury me in no grave
I want to see atop a pyre
Let the ground there regrow
No hand of man ever to keep up
And give Nature the gift of freedom
Ashes to dust to dirt to life

See me off as you are
I want not to see a tie or dress
But you as I remember your true selves
Any other way would be an insult to my life
For you failed to learn what I have tried to believe
The self is higher than the image

Remember me as I was
Not just the better and the best times
For every moment was crucial to my definition
Remember what I have given and taken from all of you
Because it was all worth something at some point to some one
And I owe you everything

Of sound mind and clear intent
I realize that this could be the end
So carry me to some secluded hillside
To show me the view one last time
And grant these my wishes to come
So that I may know my peace and go

Should my mortality prove itself
And my reaper come to collect
And repossess what I have borrowed
This the life, this the debt
I have paid

Let these be the dying wishes
My last words to you all

Cry for me if you wish
But smile too, if only a little
For I'm sure I did maybe a few times
So move on and move on and move on
Before you have to attend your own last dance
Life must be lived or left

Give no secular or separative ceremony
I am a product of the universe and its mover
Whatever it is, to there I am returning, to there I am
So move on and move on and move on and move on
Before you have to lay there and hear your own eulogy
While you can, seek everything

I want this read at my funeral
I'd like you all to know everything
But rain comes so quick and time leaves
So if I've said anything or done anything at all
What I want to know is that it was not all in vain
And that I lived.
