On Your Own

You want to show the world that you know you can do it,
so you dive into the deep end, just to help yourself get through it.
But you're weaker than you thought; the current is too strong -
and it's only now you realise you've been drowning all along.

You tell the world you're fine and you can make it on your own
but even as you're fighting, you see that you'll be overthrown.
But you think that you can do it, so you shake your head and take it
yet however hard you try to try, you're never gonna break it...

  1. ...on your own...

Turning down the hands that are reaching out to save you,
thinking that you're brave, put your head down and wade through...
but if truth is truth, you know you're just too scared to try
they'll only turn away - you'll fall if you try to fly!

So wave away the people that are gathered all around
and when they turn their backs to you, dig deeper in the ground.
Before too long, they'll wander off, before they get too bored
And you can wallow in your misery and crown yourself the Lord...

  1. ...of nothing...

And as the last people leave and darkness takes a-hold
suddenly you realise, you're not feeling quite so bold...
thinking... thinking... thinking... there is no way to mend it.
Maybe... maybe... maybe... it would be easier to end it...

  1. .But No.

You want to show the world you're strong: To show them you can do it
so you dive in to the deep end because thats the way to get through it.
But you knew you wouldn't make it. You knew that you were wrong...
but it's only then you realise you've been drowning all along.
