Autumn on the Hill
by heinzs

Autumn’s blush paints technicolor
the usual mountainside greens and browns.
Bright hues highlighted by the peek-a-boo sun
make the whole experience one
of action and vibrant life.

Nutkin darts from rock to tree
and twitches his bushy tail
like a flagman’s signal to move along.
Magpie flits between branches
stark white on black
in sheer contrast to ochre leaves.

Between us, on the rug, I pour the Merlot.
The glasses clink and the squirrel stops
momentarily in his tracks,
then resumes burying his acorn.

You smile as you sip
through lips almost as dark as the wine.
How different it seemed then –
as if the future was unfolding
within the pleasant aspect
of the glorious present.

You never lost that smile.
Even near the end
your inner joy shone through
making a lie of the tubes and wires
keeping you alive.

That first autumn together
always comes back to me here
in the cool woods.
This magic place fills me
with your gentle love
and for a moment I, too,
may smile.

Words Six Feet Deep
by negatvone

Lost upon these open shores blindly my heart does weep
To find the solitude that sands of time caress and keep
Apprehension seeps within the layers of neglect
Searching down life’s barrel to find the round that I select

Digging down deep to find some hope that might be leniently left
Plundering like a vagabond who strives to be seen as deft

Nothing more than hollow hopes remain upon the brow
Pain and anguish sit upon the kingdom’s throne now

Regrets of things not yet done wisp away with ease
As the trigger takes a pull and the lead catches the breeze
On this moment the Cerberus takes the flesh and seize
Everything the want from you with tormented, tattered knees

The final sin has been committed with no way to repent
This lease on life has been squandered away. All your moments spent
Because of greed beyond your own fathoms that you had
Trying to release it all just to abolish all the bad

Still in the end the only thing that managed to stay real
Is this pact you make with Hell, This selfish little deal
That damns your self in all your grace for taking your soul
And sending it straight to hell with no stops to pay a toll

Nothing now but darkness and malaise to greet you every day
Without a voice from this day. That’s the way you’ll stay

Words that cut six feet deep
Covered in dirt

That’s the way it will keep.

Of course when there's no one voting it kinda loses its luster...

The honor is in the nomination, not the winning.

Congrats heinzs and negatvone!

I guess I kind of voted in a way if you call nominating one of these poems a vote. (Note here that I like both poems), but I happened to stumble across hienzs's one day while I was digging through the forums. It is a shame that more people are not a little more active on voting for these poems. I wonder what can be done about that so that everyone is the forums becomes more involved. Since I have started I have nominated a few poems for community favorite, and for poem of the week, but I have seen that a lot of people are not active in this. It just leaves me curious as to what we can all do as a group to make the people who post their work in the forums become a little more actively involved in this. Hmmmm? Once again congrats to the both of you, keep up the good writing.

Cheers!

heinzs and negatvone,

Contrats on being poet of the week.

:thewave:

Two awesome poems, and I enjoyed reading both.

Seems I need to travel to the bottom of the page more. Then I would know what's going on. Guess I'm guilty of not keeping up. Being new I'm still trying to figure the ends and outs of these pages. But I promise to try and do better!

I did enjoy both writes.

Angeleyes,

I am sure that nobody is upset with you, I was posting for a little while before I was daring and learned how to nominate for Poem of the Week, or Community favorite. There is a section of forums that is for this, so when you see a poem that you really like, if it is well replied to (I think it has to have at least 3 replies) to become a community favorite. Poems of the week they do every week, so just spread the word and keep you eyes open in that forum each week to see if anybody has been nominated yet for poem of the week, or to add someone if you want to nominate them. I am not sure, but I do not think you need at least three replies for poem of the week, but I could be wrong. I would ask heinzs about that one, he would definatly be able to tell you. heinzs and negatvone, once again congrats, you both did a great job on these poems!

Cheers!

To become a Community Favorite.
Step 1:
First, make sure the poem qualifies. The original poem must have received at least 5 positive replies from members. Replies from the original poster do not count. The poem must have been originally posted at least 2 weeks ago.

Step 2:
If the poem you wish to nominate meets those requirements then reply to this thread with the following information:

The title of the poem
The author
The category it was posted in
A link to the thread in which it was posted

Step 3:
Bump the original post by replying to it and saying that it has been nominated as a community favorite and asking others to come here to nominate the poem as well.

negatvone,

Thank you, I knew it was something like that. Huge difference between 3 and 5. My bad about that, its been a little bit since I nominated one. Here I am giving bad info. I am right that poems of the week do not have to have a certain amount of replies though correct? Thanks for piping in with the info, very useful!

Cheers!

That's for Community Favorite. Poem of the week can be nominated regardless of replies.

Any poem in any forum may be nominated for "Poem of the Week" regardless of the age of the poem, number of replies, or whether it had ever been nominated in the past (and not won).

Community Favorites should demonstrate that they had been a "favorite"... that's why they need at least 5 replies to qualify. It isn't that hard to get the "seconds" once nominated.

Thanks all!
