last mother's day
by zero

on this mother's day
they load up the car for a fishing trip
forgetting about the eldest who sits in the chair
rocking seeminglly content
taken for granted
the cornerstone of them
hidden benieth brick

memories of 1948 linger in her mind
she sees them clearlly when they were around nine
she closes her eyes
as everyone passes by closes the door
she says "it's ok i'll be fine"
"maybe ill wash a few dishes"
as the car pulls away she starts to cry

she was strong enough to hoast the dinner
at her home just a few years ago
just like it was only yesterday
she can still see her husband's face
as tears filled his eyes holding granchild for the first time
now hes gone she wants to go be with him
she feels like she is in our way
she sits content with nothing to say

conversations from the other women
speed past
they just act like shes already gone
she remembers when she was included
now shes like a tarnished statue
with not a glance

they'll think back and of her when shes gone
this was her last mother's day
her last wish was unheard
she just wanted to spend it included with the ones she loves

how can they just leave her sitting all alone
on this special day to have their own fun?

A much needed reflection, man. I love my grandma.

Congrats, zero.
