Window Mirror
by foreverflame

There he lays…
Fists are clenched.
He’s deep in sleep,
yet swings and hits.
There he fights…
His mind? Himself?
His unheard words
that cry for help?
There he wakes…
He rises from bed.
He looks at the mirror.
His eyes are red.

The mirror fades…

It’s slowly changed
from a rounded mirror
to a window frame.
It shows outside.
He sees himself playing.
Rolling in the grass.
Smiling, though it’s raining.
Him and some kids
pick up boards,
get into a stance
and pretend their swords.
With each blow,
a smile appears.

The window goes
back into a mirror…

There he stands…
Seeing his reflection.
The mirror shows only
himself and his depression.
There he grips…
His fist still clenched.
He gets mad.
The mirror is almost hit.
There he holds…
and grits his teeth.
He knows it won’t help
to see himself bleed.

The mirror fades…

And with a gasp,
he watches as it turns
into window glass.
It shows outside.
Some kids are seen.
There’s him, racing them
up a tree.
With firm grip,
he laughs out loud,
drops his legs
and swings himself down.
He hits the grass.
A smile appears.

The window goes
back into a mirror…

There he stands…
Watery eyes.
Wondering why he
can’t have that life.
There he looks…
Nowhere to run
and when you cry,
help rarely comes.
There he plans…
his own solution.
His fist now clenched
with resolution.

The mirror fades…

as change begins
to make the mirror
a window again.
It shows outside.
He doesn’t glance.
He knows this might be
his only chance.
He grabs the window.
Yanks it wide.
Brightness shines
down from the sky.
Quickly he starts
to climb into it.
Kids from the other side
help him through it.
Now he’s off…
and trading hits
with swarms of friends
with sworded sticks.
Now he’s off…
and climbing trees
as his friends race
and make up teams.
Now he’s off…
And worry-free.
Something he thought
he’d never see.

The window closes…
The mirror remains…

…and waits for the next one
that wants a change.

Congrats, Llmar.
Entering the sanctuary of my mind may lead to perils of unknown magnitude.......... hold on and embrace the ride. Feel the tolls as we pass from existance into my sought domain of twisted reality. -negatv: 5/05-

If I changed anything I have done in my life I wouldn't be me. Personally, I kinda like me. I'm an asshole, but I'm my kind of asshole.

Friends are what help me guide myself through life. I just have to find the right direction first. -negatv- 10/06

Much appreciated.

these crooked ways.
I never even asked to come,
so now I'm living in the days.
I struggle and fight
to stay alive,
hoping that one day
I earn my chance to die..."
