Darling, your eyes are reflecting fire

Post by GoodRedRoad » Sun Mar 18, 2007 5:28 pm

We stood on the highest peak
looking over the city
And watched as the bombs fell
to set fire to the capital and turn our white buildings
to black ashes

And the cloud we
saw rise up and out,
and out and out and kept coming,
Sped towards your hand
that was closed around mine;
that you held tighter for
every inch our peace came closer.

And baby, maybe my hand broke,
I guess I'll never know,
because we were overtaken
by foreign diminishing sickness
before I could sense any kind of pain.

And in that last second, that flee
ting half-second that we had before
the fall, when I looked at you
and you were staring
and looking as
anxious and glorious as ever,
I thought to myself,
"This is your last chance
to do anything."

And I prayed to God you didn't feel a thing.
"Physical love is unthinkable without violence."

Wow...this piece really moved me. I get that very image in my head.
And baby, maybe my hand broke,
I guess I'll never know,
because we were overtaken
by foreign diminishing sickness
before I could sense any kind of pain.

And in that last second, that flee
ting half-second that we had before
the fall, when I looked at you
and you were staring
and looking as
anxious and glorious as ever,
I thought to myself,
"This is your last chance
to do anything."

And I prayed to God you didn't feel a thing.
Truly amazing piece of work.

omg... that ending is beautiful, the idea of death speeding toward them, the sentiment of love shown by the handholding. the falling and the selflessness of not wanting them to feel any pain. i must say im holding back a tear. gorgeous imagery really beautiful thank you for a great read =]
