Late Rain at North Lake

Post by bags123 » Thu May 15, 2014 8:56 am

Late Rain at North Lake

The early rains have started late
Old roads lie muddy near North Lake
Wild quail erupt behind the trees
Exploding near in front of me

And further down the way a hedge
To guide one to the water's edge
Bullfrogs in chorus croak their songs
Each one competes to sound most strong

A wood duck quacks as he floats by
Reflections from the sun and sky
Which play upon it's dappled form
With promises of coming warmth

The lake appears to be intact
Despite past winters fierce attacks
Old roads lie muddy near North Lake
The early rains have started late

Nice imagery that could describe any of dozens of lakes nearby. The bullfrogs of my childhood have mostly disappeared due to real estate development that has replaced the marshes and estuaries with summer homes. I miss their nightly chorus around the campfire.

Thanks guys. It's getting warmer now, and the lake (North Lake) is as beautiful as ever. :hello:
