Where A Hero Had Been

Post by bags123 » Wed May 30, 2012 8:48 am

Where A Hero Had Been

Wrinkled,
old skin
Wrinkled
old skin
Draped
over bones
where a hero
had been
Layed
in a coffin
of patriot wood
Soon decayed
in the grave,
under ground
he once stood
All the newspaper
clippings
contrived
sordid facts
From his first
fusillade,
to his last
desperate acts,
and now
all that's left
is some
wrinkled,
old skin.
Draped
over bones
where a hero
had been.

In the end that's what's left... the empty casing of a proud hero. I see them in the July 4th parade... ever fewer each year. And I see them in the old-folks' home languishing in their chairs staring at the floor.

Thanks Bags!

Thanks Heinz. Hero's are hard to find anymore. Even the people who used to be considered so.
