Why My Friends Are Gone!

Post by Eric » Sat Mar 19, 2011 9:25 am

Where have they gone ... Why have we lost our friends?
Why can we not hold onto ... the ones we love until the end?
Why is this life so hard , to take so many lives away?
Why can't we just hold onto .. our friends for one more day?
I remember not to long ago when I feared for my own life
When I was living in such shame .. trying to fight my strife
I think back on how I made it .. and the trials I climbed through
Why was there nothing else ... that my friends could have to do?
I have made decisions ... that have jeopardized my health
Things I had control of ... that have limited my wealth
I know I cant control it, the things that lead some lives
And the wounds we have accumulated ... from all of these sharp knives
I guess I'm searching for the answer ... why we live the life we lead
And why so many of my friends ... had to leave this life from me
I have been through many changes ... I have risen when I failed
I have overcome some moments ... when the sky just opened up and hailed
I dont consider myself to lucky but I am still here for today
My life has taken such a course ... that it changes everyday
So if your my friend and see this note ... please rethink your choice
Don't end your life without the words ... I will be and hear your voice!

The "question poem" is a difficult genre to create, though it feels like such a simple project. It is even more difficult when the answers are not forthcoming, and some readers may feel disappointed in the end. In a way this reflects on the old "Ubi sunt que ante nos fuerunt" (Where are they that have gone before us). http://www.answers.com/topic/ubi-sunt So it is an accredited poetic form. You go beyond the rhetorical questions with explicit personal revelations and the final plea for an end to the self-annihilation of your acquaintances. I can see a lot of emotion went into the creation of this, however the use of the language does not truly convey "feeling" as opposed to exposition. It is more a rational rant than an emotional one... which is probably your intent.

I can relate. Personally I'd like to have felt more and been told less. Now that I'm geting "used" to your format, I'm better able to look beyond it.

Cheers, Eric!
