Winner: Poem of the Week: September 3, 2006

More Than You’ll Ever Know

My mother used to sit by me
As a youngster, as I’d grow
And, every time I asked her how much

She replied “More than You’ll ever know”

I always shook off the words
With a little smirk
But, however long I thought on it
It always was present

Throughout the years as I grew up
It never was replaced
These words that make me smile
Something time can not deface

Even while I was unruly
In my teen-age years
I’d stop to think about these words
From a woman beyond my years

“More than You’ll ever know”

Then one day it came around
God, don’t ask me why
I became a father of my own
Now I had to try

To find the words to tell my kids
How much they mean to me
But, every time I tried to speak
These words just came to me

“More than You’ll ever know”

If there is a doubt in mind of how we really feel
Please all Sons and Daughters
Just look at the words right here

“More than You’ll ever know”

To My Mother: more than You'll ever know,
Jim

This is a quote that my mother embedded in my head.

I just hope everyone out there looks at the meaning.

I just came in to re-read this... and It took me back to the times when doubt would cloud my eyes and she'd say those very same words (of course, different language)... but I understand what u r saying... although I dont have kids of my own, my little brother is so precious to me... Every time he asks me how much I love him (always before he asks for some expensive, outrageous toy..." I always whispered to him, "more than you'll ever know"

of course I end up buying the damn toys for him too...

I understand this all so well.
But there's so much time
I will wait for you
Growing love but like water
Time will always slip through
I will wait for you
But please come soon

I know the feeling, Naush.

Casey, I'm glad you understood it.

Thanks for the time to read and reply, guys. This is one of my favorites.

I wrote it for my mother.

2 and one half days left. Can we loose all the fancy do-dads?

This is such an amazing piece. As a single mom of three its hard sometimes to express to your children how much you care for them. I hope some day my children can think back and smile on the time they spent with me and i hope i can instill in them the kind of everlasting knowledge of my love that your mother inspired in you. So glad you bumped this.
