Albert H. Collins (SNAPPER)
Royal Canadian Engineers
Second Division-1939-1945

This is my Uncle today he is 86 years young..and has shared so many stories with me which he never shared with anyone else before. He was given many medals and I am so proud of him and the countless others who gave us our freedom.

<center>Our Chivalrous Heroes

Young men so valiant and brave,
Went to war and faced an early grave.
Sons, husbands and fathers, left loved ones behind,
To fight a war for the freedom of mankind.
Day and night through the battles rage,
Death wasn’t prejudice to their age.
Called to war, the hundreds of young boys,
Would never live to enjoy, some of life’s many joys.
Facing each day, knowing they might come to harm,
Left the safety and warmth of mothers arms
They became men, long before their prime,
The least we can do is, Remember those one of a kind.
For our freedom at Normandy, the young and old fought,
Their memory will go on, and never be forgot.
Courageously by them our freedom was paid,
Gave their lives, and in a cold grave were laid,
We hale the men in uniform, who on that fatal day did die,
Along with those wounded and maimed, for you and I.
Out of the arms of loved ones, now in the Saviors rest,
Are those dauntless young men, gave their best.
In memory of that day in silence our heads we bow
To give reverence to Our Chivalrous Heroes now.
