September 11th – A Remembrance

Post by Travis » Sun Sep 09, 2018 1:22 pm

It was a cool, crisp
Shiny September morn
Clear, cloudless azure skies
Never seen the coming storm
The personal hell
The planes plummeting
The twin towers burning
Determinedly defined silhouettes
Frantically free-falling feverishly
Meeting a sad, unfortunate demise
The twin towers toppling
Spiraling downward
A cloud of grimly grey ash
Blanketed entire city blocks
Suffocating the shining September sun
A melancholy metropolis mangled
Marred and scarred for life
A cold, cowardly callous attack
Thousands of innocent lives
Gone
Missing
The torrential tears
The endless searches
Loved ones lost
Family
Friends
Fallen firefighters
Perished policeman
Never to return
The coming together
The short-lived unity
The prayers
The unsung heroes
Their sacrifice
The red, white, and blue
Old Glory
Hoisted and raised proudly
Waving freely
Among the ragged ruins
This is why we stand
Tall
Proudly
To pause
To reflect
To remember
And never forget…
