Cosmic Shoplifting

Cosmic Shop Lifting

I spent some time in a cosmic store
Pickin and choosin this and that
It was different from here that was sure
But it all comes from where I put on my hat

Space dust and clouds
Diamond lights and a whole lotta distance
There’s nary a crowd
But that only comes with my firm insistence
I do my shopping alone

So much to buy so little time
And the prices, good heavens, so high
But shoplifting here isn’t a crime
So I stepped up to give it a try

Into my pocket goes a magic wand
Runes and spells in a vast array
Wizard attire which I had donned
And for none of which I chose to pay
And it was not a loan

Out I go through the cosmic door
My loot packin body in hasty retreat
A thief smirking smile, sly yet demure
As I slink past the counter on fast moving feet

With hands on my goods I scurry off
Plans forming madly my wizardly fare
But that’s when my hated alarm clock goes off
So I guess I’ll just have to leave it all there
Cosmic justice sucks!
Bric-a Brac

Death will be your final victory over life
Rejoice, for victory comes even as you live
Spread your arms and embrace the future

I only shoplifted once in my life. Back in college I put one madras indian print inside another so when I checked out they'd only charge me for one. I still feel guilty about it,....but they looked nice on my dorm room walls. The last time I was in Boston I went into the Student Union and dropped 15 bucks on the counter when no one was looking. Reverse shop lifting. It probably should have been more considering all the time that passed, but I was paying 1972 prices. :thewave:

I stole a copy of "Steal This Book" by Abbie Hoffman. It was pretty obvious as I didn't try to hide it. I simply picked it up and walked out the door. Funny thing is, I had no intention of ever reading it. I also shoplifted a Jefferson Airplane album when a pretty co-ed stuck the LP inside my sweater while giving me a smooch. First and only time I worked as a music mule.

As for Kuperian's poem; it was a little disappointing to find that like Dallas it was all a dream. I too have my own universe. I suspect we all do. In mine, laws of gravity and capitalism are subject to complete disregard and 'shoplifting' is considered a sort of liberation by turning objects that tend to stay at rest into objects that tend to stay in motion.
