A Father's Tired Refrains

A Father’s Tired Refrains

I hear the music played today,
then wonder why they bother.
Plead with my kids to turn it down,
like my departed Father.
It’s funny how the more things change,
the more they stay the same
Two generations can’t compare
the notes they’ve both sustained.
Perhaps it’s in the air they breathe,
or junk food they’ve been eating --
But I declare, the sounds I hear
resemble children beating
On pots, and pans, or toilet lids,
mistreating proper function,
Those instruments placed in their hands
Abused without compunction.
It could be human hearing’s changed,
deranged by mass delusions
From institutions now in league
to prompt our youth’s confusion.
It’s funny how the more things change,
the more they stay the same.
I guess it’s part of growing up
with Father’s tired refrains.

Sooner or later I think we turn for better or worse into our parents, sadly for me the amber nectar holds more attraction these days as it did for my Dad, as for the music I like to think in the case of one of my sons I have given him the freedom to choose from the vast array of musical styles and he has done so, we will always be at odds with current trends only to discover over time that attitudes do indeed remain the same, bugger just in from poetry and prose reading by Jack Underwood and Laura Hird and a few pints of ale,, anyway enjoyed the read, hope my reply makes sense, will have to check it out in the cold light of day tomorrow

Always a pleasure hearing from someone in the same circumstances. I hope the amber nectar you speak of is Jamesons. Anything else would be suspicious to say the least. Thanks smiffy.

i can relate!.. as i have grown older, i find that i have become my mother!.. ever since she died i have come to understand so many things about her, as well as myself, because all the time when something happens and i react EXACTLY as she used to, i find myself thinking ohhhh, so thats what she meant, or, ohhh thats why she was like that! or, ohhh thats why she said that!... all part of the process of aging i guess..i liked this one a lot bags! :hello:
