Silly sayings (add your own)

Post by Gingy » Tue Jan 24, 2006 11:52 am

'No stronger love
than a man and his dog'
What a strange saying.
What if a man didn't like his dog?

'The course of true love
never runs smoothly'
What a deep saying.
What if people find loving easy.

'People come in all shapes and
sizes'
What a silly saying.
You don't see people walking
down the street, square, circle
or even triangle!

'You're barking up
the wrong tree'
What a wierd saying.
You don't see people acting like dogs
And what if there isn't a tree nearby?

Can you add any more to this poem?
Feel free to post new lines and I'll see how long it gets.

People are going to see you, how they want to see you. Everyone is different and unique in their own way. But the people who love you and care about you, are whose opinions really matter.

Some one tells you, you're barking
up the wrong tree,
Why I never knew I was a dog,
and there isn't any tree near by  .

since when does teeth have skin?

Funny, but all these sayings make sense in context. Although it's' greater love hath no man then he who lays down his life for his brother' and 'a dog is man's most loyal friend'

And true love never runs smooth, that's why nuptial vows include better or for worse and in sickness and in health, richer or poorer...you know the drill. Falling in love is the easy part.

People do come in all shapes and sizes and if you don't believe me, try buying a dress for your girlfriend without knowing the particulars.

Barking up the wrong tree is pretty familiar to anyone who uses dogs when hunting.

And btw you do have a sort of skin on your teeth. Now we call the stuff you scrape off under your fingernails 'plaque' but people used to call it skin like every other covering.

 I know it seems silly but it all made sense at one timeor place.

Don't leave someone you love for someone you like because that someone you like will leave you for someone they love.

I can't think of any silly sayings off the top of my head, but the stupidest song lyrics ever written have to be :

"I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert your can remember your name
Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain"

thanks Zarquain. I realise that sayings do have meanings when put in perspective but if I thought that straight away, I wouldn't have come up with this (ridiculus) poem! Oh well thanks for all your comments!

I agree with Eternum, it's silly to say proverbs and saying are silly. They enoble the language, they enlighten speech and make it entertining, they brighten up our skies. The skin of ones teeth is evocative and gives such a wonderful sense of meaning, and who says eyes don't have a corner, why does a corner have to be square.
The problem with these forums is we tend to all want to be sweet and agreeable so we will agree with any daft nonsense just to be part of the crowd, what's wrong with the contra argument. Let mature, grow up and put what we really feel to paper.

Snorple
p.s. But do it nicely, the more sickly the better.

lol, that's fine!! Opinions are a great thing, it does, however, mean we have a debate on our hands.

I for one do believe they are silly sayings, but not in a nasty sense. It just makes one wonder where they came from that's all. And of course, they cannot be literal. Eyes really don't have corners.

But hey, we shall see what the future brings.
