a bolt from the blue

over a haze of self-hate
good comes to those who wait
my patience has worn thin
I can't bear to let you in

she really takes the cake
there goes your silver spoon
all the angels bellyache
sun's spitting at the moon

I'll bet you heard it
coming over the wire
the tap is bone dry
and the house is on fire

flames licking at your heels
now you know how it feels
here on the losing end
you dare to call me friend

it takes a solid spine
to concede defeat
the pleasure's all mine
the circle is complete

every time I decide
to be accommodating
love comes around
she doesn't mind waiting.
