Inspired

As it happens O’Leary’s dear mother disowned him
when he started a fling with that wild, Gypsy girl,
who cavorted all night by the light of a campfire
for assorted male patrons, and entrepreneurs

But regardless of his own chagrin he still loved her
There was something about her he couldn’t deny
She appealed to his sense of beguiled abandon
when she danced by the flames underneath darkened sky

In a trance he would watch her with great admiration,
as she twirled , and sashayed between shadows, and stars,
and the men in attendance drank wine as the moon rose
while they listened to music from Gypsy guitars.

Then at length when the first light of morning had broken,
and O’Leary awakened with renewed desire
Far away he could see that the Gypsies had traveled
All alone would he feel that his love was inspired.

I love the pictures you painted with words, making it easy to see the gypsies dancing in the moonlight. Great write.

Love it Bags.... wonderfully passionate imagery. Earthy and bold .... you make me want to dance and love like a gypsy. Poor O'Leary though .... the boy should have known better

expelled and onward through desert dust swallowed,
sands he says that gorge on simple sensibilities.
And, now he spits fragments, grit, extended vowels and elongated syllables
over cracked lips. Their sounds fall
piling round his boots…
