Lazy Afternoon

As the leaves rustle,
high above, offering
a protection from the
blazing sun, the wind
is naught but a soft
breeze, turning the
pages of time.

The blanket is soft,
warmed by the rays,
tenderly it carresses
the ground below.
Birds fly in the hidden
sky, their song a distant
murmur.

Hours pass with no
movement, not wanting
to ruin the memory.
Hoping the time
will never come
when we must part.

The tears burn behind
smiling eyes, knowing
time will change tomorrow,
will make things long
dreaded come to pass.
Though for a while this
blissful day was real.

But it was just a picnic
in the park.

This is stunning...that's the first word that came to mind after reading... It's a lazy Fall afternoon in Chicago right now and sitting in class staring out the window made the imagery in the poem very relatable for me~always...Slayer*
