**Better When Broken**

Post by David Bradsher » Tue Feb 06, 2007 9:13 am

His muse was once enchanting, and her inspiration glowed,
So mystically enlightened that his metered verses flowed
Without the fractious ranting that he once depended on
When he, disturbed or frightened, would become an easy pawn

For one who’d hurt a writer just to gauge how he’d avenge
A wrong with a reaction (in a pen-and-paper binge).
He sensed the flame inside her, and it warmed him into winter,
Achieving satisfaction in the poems that he sent her.

But early-February brought a hard, symbolic sleet
That coldly coincided with a feeling of defeat,
Which haunted him, contrary to the comfort he enjoyed,
And left him, unrequited, in that same familiar void.

She’s gone, but what’s remaining is an educated fool
Who won’t forget, and uses, the rejection as his fuel
To keep him from complaining of his lot in life because
He’s busy when he loses, and he’s better when he does.

I really appreciate the kind comments.

Ven, I have a contract for a 200 page book, so I should be able to fit quite a few poems in there. The title is "Pieces of the Fortress", and I hope to have it out by Fall. Thanks for asking.

I love this, such a good read. Words full of feelings that the reader can feel, my kind of poem that's a pleasure to read.

Just wondering. You wouldn't happen to be a communist would you?
