A Blue Emblem Truck
The truck was white,
With a blue emblem on the side.
“Health care Providers” it said…
“Taker of life”, is what I read.
My lady, whose wildness and wit,
And gusto of life thought to never quit,
Once enwrapped young and old hearts…
Sat quietly, waiting for the dieing time to start.
Her eyes, always full of fire and fight,
Ready to take on any challenge within sight,
Able to stare holes in the hardest man,
Stared toward the window, a faded tan.
The truck with the blue emblem
Pulled up, as the setting sun dimmed.
The “beep, beep, beep” as it was backing up,
Chipped at the wall of hope, calling “give up, give up, give up”.
Her voice, once vibrant and strong,
Accented by Japan, with Texas coming along
To give it gusto, making everyone hear,
Now, in a throaty whisper, called, “It’s here”.
As I passed, going toward the door
Memories, washing as a flood at hope’s wall on the floor,
Of a lady of karate and judo and gardening too,
And my will of love grew, refusing to bow to the emblem of blue.
My hand brushed her hair, squeezed her hand,
Lingered a moment on her wedding band,
She squeezed back, whispered “it is okay”
“But, it’s not!” I thought, needing to pray.
I stumbled, in hidden despair,
Kicking up hope’s dust, glistening in the room’s air.
As I moved to make the doorway more open,
The glistening air blew out as they wheeled in her oxygen.

Thank you Debbie, , your comments are a welcome source of energy for me.
Carl, so nice to hear from you again. Thanks for those nice words.
Friend, thank you...it was but a small moment in time for us, but very meaningful in all the wrong ways...

Re: A Blue Emblem Truck
Thank you Hope for the comment.
Bobbi, so sorry if my words brought back similar memories...pain clings to our memories the way we cling to our children, years after time has swept them away.
Jim, thank you so much...looking back I now see how "hope" is so easily blown away, while "faith" clings softly to our hearts.
