Verbal Love
by gordy

"I love You,"
He announced with a "Noun"
As he went out the door
And headed to town

"Love you, too,"
Said she, still in her gown
Her face forcing a smile
Refraining a frown

An obligatory call
Made precisely at noon
And, "Love ya , hon" and "I'll be home soon"
That's all he rote, the same ol' tune

Ritually the word
Becomes just a sound
Repeated robotically
Just another noun

But this night
something strange,
something new---

Hello with a hug and brushing away tears
A soft sweet, silent touch erasing all fears
Removing all doubts this day had appeared
That Love, (as a verb) said loud and clear
Everything she ever needed to hear

---------------------------------------------------------

Noun-----(a thing)

Verb-----(an action)

though the slang write had me frowning at parts.. the poem as a whole is awesome and the message is clear and precise... i am in total agreement with the view and like the poem... still not too big on the slang type though.. hehe
i only wish that someday i can hold someone in my arms as i stare into their eyes and tell them that i love them.. no empty half assed robotic tone as i scurry out the door.. i would take time to hold them and let them know that the power of truth enforced the words i spoke...

omg, you wrote a poem about me!! lol

i loved the noun/verb contradiction. that is so true and a very thoughtful way to put it. i get so upset when peter does that to me; it's so routine, habitual. which doesn't make it meaningless... it just doesn't have as much meaning as when love is a verb.

quite honestly, this is the greatest thing i've read in a long, long time. thank you for that.

Noun, verb.. you really hit home with this one. Great observation.

When the soul lacks for "verb" it uses "noun" for does not forget what it lacks. So "noun" is indispensable no less than "verb". Beautiful poem.

Nice job with this one Gordy, I just had to bump this back up! The style and voice of this poem is unique, and the flow is nice, I like how you have used rhyme. Thanks for sharing this!

Cheers!
