MONTOUR FALLS

Post by MJPease » Thu Apr 04, 2002 4:21 pm

MONTOUR FALLS

I thought I might like to fish
so fish I did with four great-
friends, we traveled not so far,
were the fish are said to run

Fished more for words, than
fish,had a few laughs, and a sigh
the fish ignored the calendar
damn shrewd for fish, said I

In return I ignored the fish, as I
cast out my line, as I observed and
reflected, I thought about time
the past, careful I choose to carry

Present day, is easy, wiser now
not so distant future, does it matter?
a Chameleon the young said, was I
analogy meant for flattery, I doubt

A dreamer also implied, far too
much seen from a young boys eyes
out of the mouths of babes, how true,
tipped off while elders set the scene

Dreamer that's me, I dare you to dream
never surrendering your dreams to reality
it's the key, the permanent defeat of life
the opposite you see, a chameleon, lets see

Though in deed, changing ones colors at-
the drop of a hat, Hmmm! a question of trust,
a couple of days older, a little wiser, hopefully
selecting memories I'll carry, not much room

I thought I might like to fish, I did
each days catch, worth much more than fish
who weren't fooled by my hooked bait, the
wise carefully choose the weight they carry

Last Shinning Knight

Post by MJPease » Mon Apr 08, 2002 10:41 am

LAST SHINNING KNIGHT

Present time devoured by an anchored past
could love surpass such a task, we'll never know
you forbid the future as you speak with the dead
thirty years to mourn, enough time I've heard said

More to the problem, than a horrid past
children won't grow no matter how much time passed
time does not stand still, have you not heard
living in the past, such a classic excuse

You wouldn't know a knight in shinning armor
if the knights lance hit you in the head
as you whimper and tell me you talk to the dead
I hope their listening, I can no longer hear

Go ahead now drink it's your god given right
self pity a bitter pill, so take your fill
turned your back on love, bad faith or your will
without trust, prepare for flood, take to the hill

POETRY for DUMMIES (like the books)

Post by MJPease » Mon Apr 08, 2002 12:12 pm

POETRY for DUMMIES

The quick dummies how to write of poetry
Oh No! my boy, life is not a quick read
you live the material before you write
if your lucky you make it through the night

Develop imagination then dare to dream
build strong wings then learn to fly
don't look so hard for what you see
you may burn the soul irreparably

All said and done hope you have some fun
tragically few seem to bank much fun
fast minds, seeing the forest for the trees feeling the blues, recording lifes ups and downs

The carnival of life, so many sad clowns
what becomes of the poets mind, the slide of life
time diligently spent writing his way deep with in
never finding the right words for the way out.

Crossing The Rapids

Post by MJPease » Mon Apr 08, 2002 11:26 pm

CROSSING THE RAPIDS

Crossed cold rapids by foot on one spring morn
sharing natures serenity, I called out to God
much has changed since last traveled this way
no signs of life on this particular day.

Even the birds seem to have all gone away
much to my horrid dismay, I stood in the stream
as a large oil slick ventured my way,
how could this be, three hours away from any city.

That's when I felt God was not listening to me
prodigal man on Earth a self consuming prophecy
our actions pave the way to what we deserve
Gods no longer listening to my pathetic words.

Freedoms Declivity

Freedom now doused in selfish dishonest greed
a man stands before a tank, we do not dare
threaten the price of oil and we do or die
the price of etyl glycol must not rise

Oh my the existance of plastic patio furniture
with out panty hose, how would we ever survive
what price paid for the toys, for girls and boys
ignore human rights, the whole world can see

Please let us get a couple of things straight
as our leaders tell the Israelites to hesitate
their civilians died as they shopped and ate
did Sadhams threat to oil, create such debate

Such irrogance for us to choose Israels fate
a declaration I must make, for I have a choice
Americans fought and died for my freedom
refusing death for the want of a full gas tank

Die for those willing to take a stand in life
free the world of hunger, demanding human rights
the man who stands eye ball to a turret of armor
tiger in the square, he did so dare at Tiananmen

Our President admits the future is getting short
it's so clear with the new lines on his face
the most powerful job in the whole human race
my thoughts are with him, as he enters this race

News so often appears so dark, without hope
the state that Catholicism is in, such catechism
societies analysis of confession more than sin
Enron, corporate america and the trouble it's in

Just turn on the tube, it keeps getting worse
so why should I ever finish this verse
never know it may carry on to a new universe
declivity of freedom can never be for we are free.

Christmas Lights

Post by MJPease » Thu Apr 11, 2002 12:07 pm

Christmas Lights

Yes I finally decided to take them down
must seem so forign to those from warmer towns
old man winter has left such a jagged frown
scared our land, with many trees knocked down.

Not that careful as I put the lights away
should hope not an omen, I need not to pay
trees, shrubs and lawn now require special care
April 11, finally spring, believe such a thing.

Cold lake effect snow, said to make us strong
seven feet of snow in one storm, not for the meek
looking for a great place to write, bring a pen
none better than Buffalo, on a cold snowy night.

Must be true, Pulitzer Prize for poetry 2002
Carl E. Dennis did receive Monday afternoon
man whom I never met, Professor of english at UB
proud to be from Buffalo on this spring afternoon.

Visions

Post by MJPease » Fri Apr 12, 2002 12:57 pm

Visions

They called it Suffering grandiose visions
visions of grandeur, how could this be
suffering, if only they new, jealousy I say
a ship of fools from which they're ruled

Men of such grand visions paved the way
success breeds acceptance' takes the grandeur away
dream flagrantly out loud and not suceed
they'll label your mind, possibly put you away

I dare you to dream loud, with all your might
with visions of grandeur as you take flight
if you need a few words along the way, I'm here
hope we do meet and share much more, till next.

LEFT HANDED BUTTERFLY

Post by MJPease » Mon Apr 15, 2002 9:09 am

LEFT HANDED BUTTERFLY

For this may be my last write, rights must count
a time to visit my father's memory once again
indelibly stamped back of left hand lived Papion
the butterfly that wished so hard to be free

Passion a virtue or at least emotion for all to be
life has given me such a rush, at times a fuss
indelibly stamped left hand, cigarette butt for me
carried passion to far with out elegance you see

It's getting closer each day as I cross the bridge
I now see what's ahead as I approach the ridge
not much left in this pathetic world for me to be
drank from the cup, smelled a rose, admired a tree

Aspire to all I could be? two roads often merged
yielding to genetics as fate chose the road for me
I, yes me so fortunate to be born free
brought to life naked, nothing but my integrity

Spending time conversing with anonymous friends
discussing the pertinence of elegance, what?
a digital existence, anonymous friends, hold on
uninteruptable power supply, now backs up my life

Fish Not Much

Thought I'd like to fish
traveled not so far, were
the fish are said to be
found more words than fish
observed and reflected on
the past, the present, the
not so distant future

Thought I'd like to fish
each word caught that day
worth more than a few fish

Brothers Sisters 52

Post by MJPease » Sun Jun 02, 2002 11:15 pm

Brothers Sisters 52

The Doobies once sang listen to the music
while Allman's sang tribute to Elizabeth Reed
Bob Dylan labored Along the Watch Tower
CSN+Y married conscious thought with music
The Fab Four Yes! I own the complete score
Eric set the world straight down at Monterey
Jimi blazed away with purple haze as Mary cried
Morrison agonized lifes trials and tribulations
While the Floyed boys lit the stage and skies
Zeppelin took us all the way to heaven and ?
then Supertramp revealed the Crime of the Century
Genesis strolled Broadway as the lamb lied down
and the Eagles vacationed at Hotel California
America sang Oz never gave nothing to the Tin Man
Heart harmonized on the elusive Dog and Butterfly
Cream took me to the White Room at the Crossroads
Joplin took a piece of my heart with her life
as McClean mused about the day the music died
Neil Young has recently questioned us poetically
Are we passionate, are we living as we talk?
Does it bother us, when we hear our spirits talk?
A bit of classic rock memories please take us back
seems we've lost so much compassion along the way
the doves are now hawks, with missles ready to fly
listen to the music or at least the poets cry, a
one legged man in an ass kicking contest we'll be
if it's on your mind say it, write it, sing it
future is now with half a decade out of the way
If I could I'd twirl like a top on my bald head
while playing a blazing solo on a Hammond B-3
and at the same time play bass guitar with my toes
and I'd also play the sax with my ? Yeah!
you guessed it, and I would walk on water every chance I get.
Brothers and Sisters 52 listening to the music.

Horizons

Post by MJPease » Fri Jun 14, 2002 6:32 am

Horizons

Line where the sky seems to meet the Earth.
A sanctuary to parallel the plane of the horizon.
A flat and even place of refuge or protection.
The crust forming over the sore, during the healing of ones sanity.
Close examination of ones mind and depth of soul.
To explore the limits of ones experience or interests.
Ones own welfare, identity, personality and soundness of judgement.
Self abregation of reality that could lead to a sarcophagus made of stone.
The line where the sky seems to meet the Earth

Lifes Reasoning

Post by MJPease » Fri Jun 14, 2002 6:53 am

LIFES REASONING

Lifes become a rhyme with out a reason
Possibly similar to the end of this season
For I have a bad feeling, deep with in my gut
By end of this season I will remain in a rut

As I look out of my window and onto the pond Ducks aren't so playful and sunshine there's not
Snows turned to rain, the warnings are clear
Look out for sunshine if she should ever appear

With wonderful spring sunshine, springs up so much life.
It fills us with hope and happiness, the light so bright.
Now threatens us with darkness to continue with life.
Maybe Mother Natures way of saying good night.

Balancing Destiny / part three

Post by MJPease » Fri Jun 14, 2002 7:59 am

Balancing Destiny / part three

Revisited the Foot of West Ferry today
place Slaves escaped to freedom they say
an astral voyager my desire to be for no fee
off to a world others may have dismissed

More than two roads have diverged, I say with a sigh
One day into a deep and dreamless sleep my spirit will fly
Visions of my own epitaph illude me, for I am not complete
Age to this point enevating, many questions of life unanswered

Has God charted the course I've traveled?
Do we have a choice in the beginning?
Is it simply genetics, guided by fate?
Does it all come down to destiny?

Boisterous Seagulls beckoned me to play
not concerned for time or even what day
the gulls apparent apathy for my thoughts
tossed me a few much needed answers on this day

Time is of my consciousness not theirs
that time has come today, I prepare my last run
touched with fire, pen, paper and guitar
my epitaph for which I make my last stand

There will be room upon the hill one day
have a good feeling about this, throw me a kiss
my wish, all good people find their way to heaven one day
I believe in God and the need to pray

What the hell were the Seagulls trying to say?
