The voices inside
They scream at me
Beat at me
Rip me in two

This place I have created
This prison of doubt
I have chained myself inside
Too scared to come out

These walls I’ve made are sturdy
These gates of pain are real
No room to fall or stumble
No chance to hurt or feel

Time has eroded
The path from whence I came
My spirit once so buoyant
Now is marred and lame.

Like stinging needles in my flesh
My own thoughts tear me down
My mind becomes so thick with grief
One day I may just drown.

The absence of you
is more painful then our differences.
The void created
in my heart
echoes "return to me"
"Forgive me"
I cannot see you
and not touch you.
To do so is to deny
myself that breath of life
to stifle my existence,
and to live no more.
Hollow walls bear
my burden when you
are not around.
You, having taken their purpose.
Their comforting intent chased after
when you stole through the door.

With that petal soft hand.

With your silly remarks.

And smell you

Then you can change
Then you can grow
Then you'll fly away.

Chain me down, make me stay
Use all your power so I'll obey
Lock me up, throw away the key
So I'm forced to be what you want to see.

But one day I'll grow,

The sound of empty chains.

You were left alone to live the lie
Of why and how you made me cry
But things will mend and time will pass
Hopefully you'll learn at last
Why I broke away from you
To find a home that's free and true.

I loved you then and love you still
It's certain that I always will
But I was not then and will never be
What you have tried to make of me.
