Switched off.
A candle in a darkened room.
A tiny flame, a point of light.
Provides a focus in the gloom
and is very welcome sight.
To those who are accustomed to
the brightness of electric light.
When they have had to struggle through
the darkness of a winter’s night
The streets look dark and threatening.
Without the street lights orange glow.
The candle light is welcoming.
Perhaps because at last you know
You’re safe at home where you belong
Until a knife thrust proves you wrong.
