Proof Positive

Post by audiofool » Mon May 08, 2017 2:00 am

He taught "love your enemies"
to his weary, dazed disciples
while loyal Europeans
raised the stakes
and raised their rifles

he fed the hungry
he emptied the store
fed up with acting
the best minds closed
he opened the door

some people find
happiness is elusive
proof of love
is at best inconclusive

some men live
such lives of luxury
some are born to leave
nail marks on a tree

he defied expectations
and crossed established lines
took the scorn, the dismissal
without retreating
was he oblivious to the signs?

lodged deep in the soul
concealed by social convention
the seed of every vice
is watered by virtue
necessity makes fools of intentions

some women seek security
some are not so sure
a heart that bleeds for him
neither needs nor knows a cure

some people find
happiness is fleeting
to prove the love of God
he took one hell of a beating

he taught us the inadequacy
of a strictly religious approach
immortal deity assumed humanity
took away our excuses
in turn taking our reproach

he calls us brothers and sisters
without hint of shame
refuge of the oppressed
the strength of the poor
there is no other name.
